Joey Thurman:
Season's changing. That means it's time for pumpkins. Here's our three top spots in the Fox Valley to bring your family and get your pumpkin on. Ah, that's chewy.
We're at Windy Acres Farmstand in Geneva, Illinois.
Kristin Srial:
September 17th through Halloween every day we have fun here on the farm for all the family.
Joey Thurman:
So when the kiddos come in, now, tell me about all the things that you have for the kids, but also for the adults.
Kristin Srial:
Lots of fun activities to get all of the energy out. On weekends, we have live entertainment, live music, magician shows, reptile shows, birds of prey shows. It depends on the weekend. Jumping pillow, moon bounces, petting zoo, corn stalk maze, zip lines. You name it, we've got it. And it's just so much fun just to be out. And then we want to keep mom and dad happy as well. So we've got lots of delicious food made to order. We've got apple cider donuts, pies, of course, baked fresh daily. And we have a little beer garden as well for dad.
Joey Thurman:
Okay, so you're making the adults extra happy?
Kristin Srial:
Extra happy.
Joey Thurman:
Okay.
Our next spot is Abbey Farms in Aurora, Illinois. Let's check it out.
Gabby Thompson:
So we have the pumpkin patch and corn maze and everything that you look for in a pumpkin patch or in your fall visit. But we also have really fun attractions for kids to climb on, petting zoo, and beer and wine tent on the weekend as well. I think what makes us really special is that first, we're a nonprofit that benefits the monks of Marmion Abbey. We're one of the largest corn mazes in Kane County, and we have a really fun design this year, so it's definitely worth visiting. Well, something really fun about ours is that it is decorated to be a little bit spooky, so have to watch out.
Joey Thurman:
It's spooky?
Gabby Thompson:
Yep.
Joey Thurman:
When you say spooky, you kind of have to do this sort of thing. Spooky.
Our final spot to get your pumpkin on is the largest at over 300 acres, Keller's Farmstand in Oswego, Illinois. Maybe I'll get an apple or a baby goat or maybe both. I'll take the baby goat with me. I don't think they'll let me do that. Let's go.
Nick Veich:
Well, first of all, our pumpkin patch is 20 acres and we have over 16 varieties of pumpkins in there.
Joey Thurman:
20 acres.
Nick Veich:
20 acres.
Joey Thurman:
That's a lot of acres. Okay.
Nick Veich:
We have orange ones that are tall, that are short, that are fat, that are skinny. We have white ones, we have green ones, pink ones with bumps on them.
Joey Thurman:
Wow.
Nick Veich:
It's just about something for everyone.
Joey Thurman:
Everyone. So you don't discriminate with pumpkins?
Nick Veich:
We don't discriminate with pumpkins. We're open through October for our apple orchard. There's no cost for pumpkins. There's a cost to pick the apples. And then we have maybe 30 different varieties of apples to pick from and they each come in at different times.
Joey Thurman:
Now. What about there was an area over on the side, it looks like there's a separate entrance fee. What's happening there?
Nick Veich:
That's correct. That's what we call Farmland. That's where our corn maze is, our three acre play area, and the farm animals as well.
Joey Thurman:
Okay. All right. Can we pet the farm animals?
Nick Veich:
You cannot pet the farm animals, but you can stare at them and maybe get some close selfies as well.
Joey Thurman:
I've been called a farm animal myself. And now you know our three top spots in the Fox Valley to get your pumpkin on or maybe your baby goat on. What do you think, baby goat? What do you think? Lost for words. I'm out of here with a goat.
