Joey Thurman: The mask mandate statewide, it just went into place. Do you feel that there's any pushback from customers coming in who have to put a mask on?

Speaker 2: No. We've had wonderful customers. Actually, before the mask mandate started back again, people would still ask when they would come in just as a courtesy. So we've had wonderful, wonderful customers come in, and nobody's complained about it.

Joey Thurman: Oh, that's great. There's been no pushback whatsoever?

Speaker 2: No, not at all.

Joey Thurman: What do you think about the new mask mandate?

Speaker 3: Well, I don't think any of the mask mandates were justified because it's not based on quality research science. When I go into that cafe to get a coffee and they tell me I have to put a diaper on my face, that's not a medical setting. It's not protecting anyone. And it's a great disservice to all the poor people who have to wear that thing all day long.

Joey Thurman: You're coordinating your outfit and mask. And what do you think about the new mask mandate?

Speaker 4: Well, I think safety is the most important thing. If me wearing a mask is going to prevent somebody to get sick or dying, I think I'm okay with it.

Joey Thurman: And what about when people won't go into a place because there's a mask mandate? What do you think about that?

Speaker 4: I think it's ridiculous. I think a piece of cloth for a moment is not going to hurt you. But you not going to a business is going to hurt the economy. We are doing this to ourself. If we don't cooperate, if we don't wear the mask, then we're going to hurt the businesses. And it's not their fault.

Joey Thurman: You are one of the few places that people can take their mask off, right? You come in, you get your food, and you take your mask off.

Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly. I mean, all we ask when you come in, just when you sit down, you take it off and eat, drink. And then if you get up, please just put it back again like we used to. It's just a short period of time that they might have to do it.

Joey Thurman: Sure. Do you feel that's confusing for people when they come in the restaurant, they got to take it off, and then put it back on? I mean, as far as it's a restaurant, it's off for most of the time.

Speaker 5: A lot of people, I mean, are already used to it. They're probably just not going to like the idea of doing it again. But we try our best. And I guess we did it once, why not do it again?

Joey Thurman: Exactly. Are you more or less likely to go into a place that is requiring a mask?

Speaker 3: Much less likely.

Joey Thurman: Okay.

Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. So until they get rid of this mask mandate, which they didn't have last Friday, we're not coming back here.

Joey Thurman: Okay.

Speaker 3: When they get rid of the mask mandate, we'll come back because we love the place.

Speaker 6: I just feel like if they're going to mandate it, we're going to participate and do whatever they say to make a smoother process into getting back to normal. So if they say to have it on, we're going to require everyone to have it on.

Joey Thurman: Okay. Have you had any pushback from any customers as of yet?

Speaker 6: No, not really. We've had people come in and actually request our stylist when it wasn't mandatory.

Joey Thurman: And overall, do you think people are confused where all of a sudden, there's a mask mandate, and then they lift it, and they go back to wearing it?

Speaker 2: I think maybe people are starting to get a little forgetful.

Joey Thurman: Sure.

Speaker 2: I think I was vaccinated. I was just saying it this morning. It's getting back into the swing of remembering to have it with you at all times. So I think it's after a couple weeks, I think it might get a little better.

Joey Thurman: Okay. Well, I mean you guys sell accessories here. So maybe the-

Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. We have... Actually, we just got a bunch of fall masks in, too. Yeah.

Joey Thurman: Isn't that strange just to say that, "Oh, we've got our fall mask line in right now?"

Speaker 2: [crosstalk 00:03:38] We've got our fall masks.

Joey Thurman: "They come in purple."

Speaker 2: Right, exactly.

Joey Thurman: "The signature Liquid House smell."

Speaker 2: Right.

Joey Thurman: Do you think people are more or less likely to come into specifically a salon if they have to wear a mask?

Speaker 6: No. I don't have any fear in that because just seeing with the whole pandemic, when we were shut down, when we opened back up, we were so busy. At that point, I felt like we should have lost more people because of the fear and everything.

Joey Thurman: Are you more or less likely to go into a place if they were requiring masks without having the mask mandate?

Speaker 2: No, I would go in. I would just wear a mask wherever I just have them with me at all times. I have extra ones for my kids. We just throw them on wherever we need to go.

Joey Thurman: Just a part of life right now.

Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. Yeah. Trying to teach them that this is what we're going to do right now to just protect everybody that we love.
