Joey Thurman: Ready to do some silks? I am. How low can I go? Coming up.
Bobbi, what are these, silks hanging from the sky right now?
Bobbi Reed: They are. They're aerial silks. We're going to do some circus stuff today.
Joey Thurman: Circus?
Bobbi Reed: Circus.
Joey Thurman: Not like clown circus, because I think circus-
Bobbi Reed: Not like clown circus. Think more Cirque du Soleil. I started about 11 years ago. I took circus classes out in Chicago. I've trained in Vegas and Hawaii as well, Maui. Yeah, it's been a lot of fun. I started with just classes, and then I started teaching, and then I started performing.
Joey Thurman: There you go.
Bobbi Reed: Yeah. Everybody has a different expectation, I think. Some come in for the same reason I did. They're like, "Hey, I want to work out, and this looks like fun." Some are coming in because they're looking for the next challenge. They're a personal trainer, or they enjoy extreme sports and they're like, "Yeah, I want to try this because it looks awesome. I saw it at a Cirque show." People come in for different reasons.
Joey Thurman: I feel like you were talking to me right there. Yep.
I want a challenge. Now, we're sockless.
Bobbi Reed: We are sockless. Can't wear socks with them because you'll slip.
Joey Thurman: Oh, that makes sense.
Bobbi Reed: The cotton against the nylon fabric is slippery, so you want your feet to stick a little bit.
Joey Thurman: Let's give this a try, huh?
Bobbi Reed: Yeah.
We're going to take our right leg, and you're going to wrap it around the silks and then bring your foot up behind.
Joey Thurman: Oh, yeah. Wait-
Bobbi Reed: Keep your knee bent. From here, your arms are going to come up, and you're going to lift and... Watch me first. You're going to lift and place the ball of your foot on top of the silk, on top of your ankle.
Joey Thurman: Let's try that. Oh my God. You're just like, "No problem."
Bobbi Reed: Yes.
Joey Thurman: Hey.
Bobbi Reed: Okay. This is called your French stand.
Joey Thurman: French stand.
Bobbi Reed: French stand. All right, go ahead-
Joey Thurman: I got a-
Bobbi Reed: ... and slide it down.
Joey Thurman: ... seven out of 10 on that one.
Bobbi Reed: Left leg on the front. Yep, and sit back. There you go. Nice.
Legs up. Keep it against your back. Try to keep that bent-knee position and rotate to another set.
Joey Thurman: Whoa. That's not happening.
Bobbi Reed: Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes, there you go. Yes. Then sit. Then you can rest again. Yes, good work.
Yep. Good, good, good. Open your legs.
Joey Thurman: That's not coming through.
Bobbi Reed: There you go. Stick it out and straddle back.
Joey Thurman: Oh my God.
Bobbi Reed: If you can.
Joey Thurman: Okay.
Bobbi Reed: You got this.
Joey Thurman: Yep, got it.
Bobbi Reed: Yes. Yeah. There you go.
Joey Thurman: I'm now an amateur aerialist?
Bobbi Reed: Yeah.
Joey Thurman: Yeah. She didn't look that confident.
Bobbi Reed: Novice. Novice aerialist.
Joey Thurman: Thanks for watching. Oh, I didn't do it. I didn't.
