Joey: September 15th marked the beginning of Aurora Hispanic Heritage Month, and it runs all the way until October 15th. I'm on the street to talk to the citizens of Aurora to see what they think about Hispanic Heritage Month and what it means to them.

Joey: September 15th until October 15th is Aurora Hispanic Heritage Month. Do you feel it's important to recognize different cultures and traditions?

Courteney: Yes, I think it's important for us to recognize that people have sacrificed to get to this point. And I believe that it's important for us to celebrate Latin American History Month so people can come together, because it's a celebration. The impact should show that we appreciate what has been done for us and how we made it this far together as a community.

Angelica: I think it's very important because Hispanics make up a lot of the United States nowadays, and I think it's awesome for them to be able to express their gratitude for not only being here, but also for everyone being welcoming of our culture.

Joey: Yeah.

Marissa: We're big into the heritage. Actually, my parents were given September 15th as their day named in Aurora in 2019. They were the grand marshals for the parade, so we're very big into the heritage month. We like it. We are proud to be Hispanic.

Joey: I'm here with Jaime Perez doing a selfie interview. Jaime, man, what's your favorite part about Hispanic Heritage Month in Aurora?

Jaime: Just being Mexican, man. I live and celebrate it every day, eat the food every day, speak the language every day, kick it with my people every day. I do this year-round.

Joey: Aurora has a large Hispanic population. How do you feel when you're here and you get to try all these authentic Hispanic cuisines or be involved in all these different traditions?

Courteney: I think it's a positive thing. It's a positive thing because we get to try different foods, know about the culture and know about the history.

Joey: What's your favorite part of this month? Do you partake in any of the events or anything?

Angelica: I try to. My favorite part would definitely be... I think yesterday it just passed. Mexican Independence Day. I happen to be Mexican, so yeah. Everyone goes out, celebrates, has a few drinks.

Joey: Just a few?

Angelica: Just a few. It's nice because everyone just kind of comes together and appreciates everything that has to do with all types of Hispanic ethnicities.

Joey: Yeah.

Joey: How important it is for you, being in the US, obviously being of Mexican heritage, to actually have a different country, specifically Aurora, celebrate you and your heritage?

Jaime: I think it's awesome. It's definitely come a long way from years past. Who doesn't enjoy tacos?

Joey: I love tacos, Jaime.

Jaime: Everyone loves tacos, man. I think it's great to show people that are not of our culture the beauty of our culture.

Joey: Do you feel a sense of pride when you see this happening? People driving around, you get to enjoy that, especially even being in the States as well. So a different country is actually recognizing your heritage.

Angelica: Yes, definitely. Even yesterday, just looking through my social media and seeing everyone out and about, I thought that was so awesome. I didn't see any complaints, anything horrible that happened, and everyone was able to just celebrate, have a good time and then call it a night. Yeah, it was nice.

Joey: What's your favorite part about the month?

Marissa: Just, in general, everything, because we're proud to be Mexican.
