Nicole Astra: Thank you for joining us on Talking Cities Aurora. If you couldn't be here, we are so glad to bring you the news from LaSalle Street downtown. This retro market has been truly a community and economic boosting event. What do you think is unique about Aurora? Putting something on like this, is that true to form to the heart of our city?

Speaker 2: That's a [crosstalk 00:00:35].

Speaker 3: I would say yeah. I think we really like to support small businesses and just individual owners of places like this. I think it's very true to Aurora.

Speaker 4: Well, I know that it's a very good busy area. I mean, there's a lot of multicultural people here. There's blacks, whites, Mexican. So it's an awesome place to be. You meet a lot of good people. I know there was going to be high traffic here, so I thought it was a good place to set up.

Speaker 5: The city of Aurora really helps to maintain entrepreneurs elevating themselves and put them out in the public to view, put on events for the public to be part of the joining and growing community, people coming from other cities, other states here as like a melting pot of culture and fun.

Speaker 6: Well, we just try to tap into the communities that are doing something. With the clothing, that's our culture. So we want to make people feel good at an affordable price. And you said, you're here for me, but they're here for themselves. This is entrepreneurship at its finest. They're showing up. They're having fun. They're networking. And that's what it's about.

Nicole Astra: What surprised me today are the young entrepreneurs. So one, thank you so much for giving them a platform to do what they love, but how is that building the economy in our city?

Speaker 6: Well, it's encouraging entrepreneurship. Whatever their lane is, it's getting them started. It's bringing people into the city. It's bringing support. They're getting into the logistics of a business. They're getting into the fundamentals of a business. This is where it starts.

Speaker 7: Not supporting all the big corporations, and it's buying from other people, small businesses, and things.

Speaker 8: Yeah, this is our job, pretty much. We turned our hobby into a living, and that's pretty much what you have to do in life. If you go to a workplace, and then you like it, you love it, that's going to be your home away from home. And that's how we feel that this is.

Aurora's Diversity and Commitment to Local Business Growth Is Catching the Eye of Young Entrepreneurs
Vendors from neighboring states and shoppers from all over the region flooded Lasalle Street, where small business owners hosted a pop-up Retro Market. The City of Aurora encourages entrepreneurship and is committed to the growth of our community by increasing visibility for small businesses.
